Inside a building, a chain link or welded wire cage is the simplest way to lock up part of a room while still letting light, air and sprinkler water through. We build them for warehouses, shops, labs, parking garages and apartment buildings in Fremont. Typical uses are tool cribs, parts and inventory rooms, tenant storage lockers, bike rooms, and cages around servers, compressors or electrical gear.
Fremont's industrial and technology buildings in Warm Springs and the Bayside area are where most of this work is. An indoor cage is anchored to the slab, not dug in, so there is no digging notice and little disruption. The planning questions are different: which way the door swings, whether it needs a slide gate to save aisle space, what lock or card reader goes on it, whether it needs a wire ceiling, and how forklifts move past it.
Outdoor enclosures are a separate case. Fences around generators, tanks, HVAC units and utility yards have to leave the working clearance the equipment needs and must not block access for the utility or the fire department. We ask you for the equipment maker's clearances and any city conditions before we set posts. Outdoors, galvanized or coated material is the rule near the bay, because salt in the air finds bare steel.
Cages & enclosures in Fremont: common questions
Do indoor cages need a permit?
A simple storage cage often does not, but it can if it changes exits, fire sprinkler coverage or the use of the space. That is a question for the City of Fremont Building and Safety Division or your building's owner. We can supply a layout drawing for them.
Chain link or welded wire?
Chain link costs less and is quick to build to any size. Welded wire panels look neater, are harder to cut and come as modular parts that can be moved. We quote either.
Can a cage have a roof?
Yes. A wire ceiling stops anyone climbing over a partition that does not reach the building's roof. It also keeps the sprinklers above working, which a solid top would not.
